ADULT PATIENTS

IS IT SAFE?

Your sedation will be performed by an anesthesia professional trained specifically to provide sedation. They are focused solely on you, and will not perform any other component of the surgical procedure.

HOW DOES SEDATION WORK?

You will be given continuous sedation through the IV. You will be comfortable and relaxed during the entire procedure.

HOW WILL I BE MONITORED?

Your heart and blood pressure will be continuously monitored by electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure monitors. Oxygen is administered and levels are closely observed by the anesthesia professional. You will breathe normally during the entire procedure.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

The anesthesia professional will closely monitor you to a safe recovery after the procedure is completed. Once stringent criteria have been met, you will be discharged. You may be drowsy following the procedure and for the remainder of the day. This is completely normal and should not be a cause for concern. You will not be able to drive home and someone will need to be with you following the procedure.

CAN I DRIVE HOME AFTER HAVING SEDATION?

You will need to bring a responsible person over the age of 18 to drive you home and stay with you after the procedure.

WILL I NEED TO FAST OR GO WITHOUT FOOD?

You will be required to have nothing by mouth, including fluids, for at least eight hours before the procedure. Depending on the scheduled time of the procedure, a strict diet may be instructed. If you consume any food or liquids prior to the appointment, you will not be able to receive sedation for the procedure.

WILL MY INSURANCE PAY FOR THE SEDATION?

Advanced Specialty Anesthesia participates with most major insurance plans. We will gladly verify your plan to determine if there is a benefit covering anesthesia for your procedure.

CAN I TAKE MY PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE?

Upon review of your medications by one of our medical staff, you will be instructed on which medications to take on the day of your procedure.
